Farewell. May you rest in peace.
Senator Robert Byrd, D-WV, the longest serving member in Senate history has died. While he was far from someone that I would admire, he did rise to the occasion at times during his long career and should be remembered for the good that he did rather than the ill that he caused. He was the quintessential example of a politically reformed and re-branded segregationist Democrat; and, that the people of West Virginia kept sending him back to the Senate is testimony that the good probably did outweigh the bad in his life.
