This is welcome news!
As you know, I posted the report of the battle between Col. Van Barfoot and the Sussex Square Home Owners Association (HOA) back on December 2. I was not the only one to notice the article in the Richmond newspapers and the story started spreading like wildfire across the net.
Within a couple of days the story was national and international. A Facebook page was established and "fans" of Col. Barfoot quickly grew to the tens of thousands with posts urging one and all to call the HOA and complain about the treatment of a true American hero.
Finally, the two Virginia Senators, sensing I am sure some very good publicity, got on the bandwagon. Today the HOA capitulated.
To be fair, it wasn't the entire HOA board that objected to the flagpole. One report indicated that it was only the HOA president. Fortunately, the HOA realized, belatedly, that they were in a battle they could not win.
Chalk another victory up to the blogosphere. I don't believe it would have become national news without the simultaneous publication of the story by many people across the net.
Fly your flag proudly, Col. Barfoot! You deserve it.
