Flight security stiffened after failed plot - Washington Times

Flight security stiffened after failed plot - Washington Times

The problem lies not with TSA (responsible for screening the flights if they originate from the US, but not from Europe) or the Federal Air Marshal Service (responsible for in-flight security), but with, and solely with, the Obama Administration.

Even before he took office, President Obama indicated a clear goal of ratcheting down the security apparatus of the United States from the wartime basis that had been the standard during the Bush Administration to something more similar to the "law enforcement basis" that was the rule in the Clinton Administration. In true liberal-progressive-socialist fashion, the White House followed through with this goal by making simple changes in the tenor and tone of the language used. Instead of a “War on Terror” it became a “man caused disaster.” By a change in the language used the White House effectively signaled that the United States was dropping it’s guard and hoping to stop fighting all together. This was reinforced when President Obama made statements that the United States was a “Muslim nation” just as were those in the Middle East and Asia. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth but this was perceived by the Islamo-fascists of the world as a crack--a weakness, if you will--in the American resolve to resist Islam so they doubled their own resolve to step-up the attacks in hopes of turning the crack into total victory. This hope of their’s was, of course, just as false as President Obama’s hope to use “words, just words” to stop their war on all “kafir.” They can no more defeat the people of the United States than President Obama can re-cast the United States as a Muslim nation.

The story also mentions a shortage of funds within the Federal Air Marshal Service but gets it totally wrong. The cost of the tickets is not an issue as the writer--let alone his unnamed DHS "source"--would have known if he'd done even a modicum of research. The law covering civil aviation security requires the airlines to provide the seats to the government at no cost. If cost were an issue then it would have to be because of cuts in the budget of the Federal Air Marshal Service by DHS itself, most specifically the cost that must be spent on support of the Federal Air Marshal's when they travel. It is a common practice in the government--more common than the public suspects-- for changes in budgets to be made at Secretary Janet Napolitano's level than anywhere else. Congress should and will enquire, I am sure, if this was the case. If it is, chalk it up to the message emanating from the White House that despite the horrendous attack on our soil on 9/11 we are not at war with an enemy that is surely at war with us.

Hopefully, President Obama will soon learn the hard lesson that the world is far different than what was portrayed to him by his liberal-progressive-socialist mentors. It is far more dangerous and far less forgiving. If he does not learn this, and very soon, then we are in for a very rough 3 years until we can tell him to pack his bags and go on the speak-for-pay tour like his Democrat/socialist predecessor, Bill Clinton.
