The Rise and Fall of Frank Church: A Lesson for Conservatives

This is an excellent article by Larrey Anderson. Like Larrey I had some personal contact with Senator Church--although not anywhere nearly so extensive--when I was young and was, at the tender age of 12, quite in awe of the man. Over the years as I studied, read and matured through life's experiences, I realized that the Frank Church that awed me when I was 12 was a myth and not someone that I could ever support as a thinking adult and conservative. Senator Church had only one conservative principle that he mouthed over and over again and that was his support for the 2nd Amendment. Knowing what I know now, I believe that it was purely lip service to help ensure his continued re-election in a very conservative state despite the fact that he was an absolute liberal-progressive.
