I've said before that we should never ask immigrants to forget where they came from, but we should require that they remember where they are. The act of coming here was their choice and they must conform to our culture, not we to theirs.
This article by Irfan Al-Alawi and Stephen Suleyman Schwartz points out how the multi-cultural pandering of the diversity crowd is adding to the problem rather than finding a solution. If those who come to this country to find a better life are allowed to settle into enclaves as in Europe where the foreign culture is held above the nation's culture then there will be the inevitable violent clash. France and, to a slightly lesser degree, England have proven this.
What we need to strive for is the integration of immigrants into the American way of life. An immersion and integration so profound that they wake up one morning and say, "Toto, this isn't Jeddah anymore."
