With over 30 years in law-enforcement I do have some very strong feelings in this area. I'll state them in a minute. But overriding any personal feeling is the fact, enumerated by our Founding Fathers, that there are certain unalienable rights that come not from any king or government but from God. Among those is the right to self-defense. Self-defense not just in the home, where each should be king of his or her castle, but where ever the person might be.

Liberal-progressive-socialists fear the personal possession of weapons on two levels. On the first level they fear the personal possession of weapons because like those superstitious, uneducated peasants of the Dark Ages, they ascribe "good" or "evil" to objects when, in fact, we as logical, educated people know that inanimate objects can be neither. On the second level, the liberal-progressive-socialists fear the personal possession of weapons because they know, in their heart of hearts, that there is no way that they can achieve their fascist goals when the citizenry they wish to enslave is armed.

In short, the difference between a free man and a slave is the right to bear arms.

Liberal-progressive-socialists reading this will immediately start shrilly chanting the usual anti-gun rants about how so many die of gun deaths every year. The conservatives will logically think, one person dying is bad but fewer die from guns than from swimming pools or car accidents yet the liberal-progressive-socialists don't want to ban those. Why?

The answer is to go back to the two levels on which liberal-progressive-socialists fear the personal possession of weapons.

I am reminded of the old saying, "In a world of the blind, the man with one eye is king." With weapons it would be, "In a world without firearms, the man with the sword, or club, is king." Based on my real world experience I can assure you that there are people in the world who are truly evil and would be the first to arm themselves with the best weapon available as they would want to be king.

What must be remembered is that with human nature being what it is--with evil being what it is--failing to allow people the tools to protect themselves is to deny them the God-given right of self-defense. That is what is truly unconscionable for even in the total police state that is the fond dream of every liberal-progressive-socialist it will be impossible for the state to adequately protect every person.

I said that I would give you my feelings on this issue and as I stated, I spent over half my life in law enforcement. In that time I've never felt that I needed to fear an honest man with a gun. I do not believe that any honest man should ever be debarred the right to keep and bear arms.

By way of disclosure, I grew up with hunting weapons in the hall closet of the family home in Idaho. I am a Life Member of the NRA and I support the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.

I believe that the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution is an individual right just as our Founding Father's meant it to be.
