We await demonstrations in the streets denouncing this Imam and his call to terror.

But we know that won't happen. The vast majority of Muslims do not support this type of Imam but the problem is that they also don't condemn him either. And then there is the 10% that, for whatever reason, actively support the terror espoused by this type of Imam. Out of 1 billion + Muslims in the world, that is about 10 million who actively support terror.

Until that changes there will be no peace no matter how we try to show that we mean no harm to Islam and that the fight is not against Islam but against those who do or would attack us. Unlike wars that were fought in the past, we have not carried this fight to the enemy's support base thus support for those who espouse terror is unabated. Truthfully, the majority of Muslims desire peace and prosperity in the same manner as the people in Iowa and have no desire to kill. But history has shown that our work with the Muslim populace is successful only so long as we are there to protect them for they know if they cooperate with us the terrorists will kill them once our protection is withdrawn. There is, after all, a long history of religious killing in the religion of peace that continues to this day.

Therein lies the core problem with fighting terrorists. Motivated by the strongest motivation of all--religion--they will not quit until they are either dead or their ummah demands it and exiles those who choose to continue the terrorism. And the ummah is more afraid of the terrorists than they are of us because they know we, at least, will not murder them in their sleep.
