If you take a look at the definition of terrorism, NW 253 was a success from the terrorist's view. It would have been a greater success had the bomb gone off and destroyed the plane killing all aboard but the fact that they got that close brought joy to the hearts of Islamic terrorists everywhere and sowed doubt about the security of America's airlines among all Americans.
