Too Old for Pain Meds

Too Old for Pain Meds

The proposed cure for the high cost of health care is already partially here. It was delivered quietly, probably on a sunshine bright day and missed because we, the people, in a fit of trust, left the decisions to the government. So if I can appreciate one thing about President Obama's drive to alter America from a state of free people to a fascist state, it's that it awakened the American people from a deadly sleep.

When Medicare was created the notion that Medicare could ever make a determination that someone could not get a pain medication because they were "too old" was not seriously considered. The people were assured by the Congressmen and Senators and the President in Washington that such an action would never, ever happen. Guess what? They lied.

It didn't happen immediately, of course, but Medicare being a government-run operation soon felt the pressure to bring more people under the coverage which resulted in the need to reduce costs, i.e., coverage. Slowly and surely, little by little, rules were altered, regulations changed to bring costs under control. Always it was done, I am sure, "to affect the least number of people while ensuring the same standard of high quality care."

The result is that today an elderly woman in Texas is "too old" to be given pain medication after surgery. It's a good thing that her daughter is there for her. (Follow the link above for the story.)

And now these same government people want to take over our health care. Now they say, "No public option" despite the fact that the President himself is recorded as having said that a single-payer system, or at least the basis for one, is what he wants to have established before he leaves office.

Given the track record, given the facts, who are you going to trust?
