Amy Winehouse--The Train Wreck That Finally Happened

Amy Winehouse--Dead at 27
Every generation comes along--and I'm not excluding my own--thinking that they have discovered new truths that somehow escaped every generation that went before. And then they run into the brick wall of reality. Amy Winehouse was an exceptionally talented girl who decided that drugs were wonderful and until now they gave her a way to avoid reality.   Unfortunately, the history of drug use was something that was ignored in her education. Had it not been, she would have seen, and hopefully heeded, the warning signs left by Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley and Kurt Cobain, to name just a few of the famous ones. One wag, I forget who, said, “Cocaine was just God’s way of telling you that you had too much money;” but that just makes a poor joke of a deadly situation.

Amy had been in and out of treatment for years but her enablers kept her supplied with the drugs her body craved and which eventually wore it out until it just stopped. And now she’s dead. I’m sure that she wasn’t ready to die--at least there has been no announcement of a suicide note--so she’s probably wondering WTF (and that’s not ‘Win the Future’ here, folks) happened? Keep her--and Jimi, Jim, Janis, Elvis and Kurt--in mind next time someone tells you drugs are cool and it’s just “the man” that keeps them from the people and that they should be legalized as a libertarian principle. Keep them in mind when you hear pundits and politicians talk about the “failure of the War on Drugs” and how we should just give up and legalize them. Keep them in mind when you hear that, ask yourself, “Should we just give up fighting something thats bad just because we’ve not done a perfect job of defeating it already? Or should we realize the reality that drugs aren’t bad because they are illegal but that they were made illegal because they were bad?”

That’s just my rant for the day as I hate to see young people die needlessly whether they are talented as Amy was, or just some kid who never had a chance because he was poor, from a broken family and lived in a city suffering from decades of liberal political policies.

Blaming the Right for the Giffords Attack Is Pure McCarthyism

George Will is always an excellent read and this one is spot on.

In the wake of the shooting the immediate move of the liberal left was not concern for the victims but positioning for political advantage.  The Democrat leadership and the left-wing blogosphere and the Left Stream Media, aided by the clearly addled Sheriff of Pima County, began an immediate attack on Sarah Palin, the TEA Party, talk radio (obviously conservative talk radio as liberal talk radio has been an abysmal failure) and Fox News.  They attacked Sarah Palin and the TEA Party because they fear her and them.  They attacked talk radio because it airs ideas that oppose their leftist meme.  They attack Fox News because it hasn't fallen in line with the slavish adoration of Barack Obama as best demonstrated by MSNBC.  (There are no more ardent or slavish sycophants of Barack Obama on the airwaves unless, of course, you want to count CNN as a whole.)

The script is now plain for all to see.  They will continue to point fingers at the political right in hopes of at least demonizing them and at best causing them to hesitate or pull punches in their political arguments out of a fantasy-land-fear that their debate has caused an individual to take violent action.  While doing this they will trot out the tried and worn-out arguments for gun control, restrictions on political speech and additional spending for security for the members of Congress.  (That will come in handy at future Town Hall meetings when they want to keep TEA Party members out and have only compliant crowds.)  Their end goal, of course, is domination rather than clear political discourse.

To be sure, the political discourse in America is loud and, at times, raucous.  It is supposed to be because when it is completely controlled by either side the result is not for the good of We the People.  I've often said that the 1st Amendment is a beautiful thing because it helps us to more easily identify who the idiots are and that has never been more true than today.  We have an aged Sheriff, clearly in his dotage, who instead of being the Law Enforcement Officer with 50 years of experience calming the community and assuring them that the evidence is being gathered properly and they are safe, launches into an unsupported, and unsupportable, diatribe against the political right thus shifting the blame from the defendant.

We have a New York Times that just over a year ago when a Muslim Army Officer shouted, "Allah akhbar!" as he began shooting and killing fellow soldiers at Ft. Hood, counseled that we shouldn't jump to conclusions about his motivation but should wait for the facts, now immediately jumping to conclusions in the absence of any supporting facts.  (As did all those on the left, including our dear leader.  Pity they never bothered to say, "Oops, you were right.  He is a Muslim terrorist acting in concert with other terrorists.)

We have Democrat politicians who have yet to shake a medieval mind-set that imparts motive and action to inanimate objects again trotting out tried and failed gun-control policies thinking, I suppose, that We the People are so stupid as to not remember that they just didn't work the last time they were tried and won't work this time.  (Of course, they've always opposed the 2nd Amendment and aren't about to change just because of a little ole' Supreme Court decision.  Remember, these are the same Democrat politicians who urge collective guilt for an individual's crimes because it's society's fault that the individual was forced to kill somebody.)

We have Democrat and liberal-left strategists working feverishly and overtime to fulfill the dictum of Rahm Emanuel that one should "never let a crisis go to waste."

Fortunately, I don't believe the American people are as dumb or sheepish as the liberal-left believes.

Federal Judge: Liberal Sheriff, Media Exploiting Attack

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.  Ideologue or senile?  You decide.
I do not claim the years of law enforcement experience of Sheriff Clarence Dupnik but I am thankful that I still have my wits about me and haven't degenerated into a complete political hack with statements that do harm to an investigation and a profession.  Dupnik, a Democrat, is a complete disgrace and should be ashamed of himself.  But I am somehow sure that he isn't.

Chief: Woburn cop slay like ‘wild west’

Officer down.
Another brother officer is down in the line of duty.  Another family looses a husband and father.  When the sound of gunfire erupted he ran towards it, not away, because it was his duty.  He didn't think twice about it.  He just did it knowing that St. Michael was there beside him.  Now he will age no more and he stands beside St. Michael ready again to battle evil.

Now that I'm retired I often think of those brothers-in-the-profession of mine who died in the line of duty.  I will never forget them.

Hamilton Police shooting video

Police Dash-Cam Video

Sometimes our Guardian Angel has to work overtime. In this case the now-deceased "I-wanna-be-a-cop-killer" traffic violator had obviously fired his gun once before then opened the cylinder and closed it in such a way that the next round would be the already fired chamber. That "mistake" saved the life of this officer.

We can Monday Morning Quarterback with the officer's actions all we want but all in all he did his job very well. After having a weapon thrust into his face with a simultaneous pulling of the trigger accompanied by that ominous CLICK! of the hammer falling--enough to get anybody's fascinated attention--the officer recovered quickly, moved to make the subject's next shot harder and drew his own weapon in response. While I'm not saying that there are no lessons to be learned, I find no fault with what the officer did as he accomplished the most important mission of his shift that night: He went home safely to his family.

Follow the link to watch it for yourself and caution if there are kids in the room. There is an understandable and very clear expletive uttered during the encounter.

U.S. Tourist Calls on Obama to Step up Search for Husband's Body in Alleged Mexican Pirate Attack

This picture pretty much shows the results of Obama's policies on the Southern border.
Having spent more than a couple of decades in law enforcement I am always reticent about making comments when it comes to on-going investigations. To often there are facts that are not known to the public and not reported and investigators need the time to do their work. In this case, however, there appears to be no on-going investigation by the Mexican authorities so I feel free to have at it.

I am familiar with the area around Zapata and Falcon Lake. I was in Laredo, Texas, as the Resident Agent in Charge of the DEA Office for just over two years back in 1988 to 1991 and remember the area fondly for more than a couple of reasons. I worked with some outstanding law enforcement officers Laredo, some of which I consider to be almost legendary, but saw little to be impressed with in Nuevo Laredo. It was common to see really nice pick-up trucks, the locals called them “Mexican Cadillacs,” being driven around Nuevo Laredo and more than a couple were vehicles stolen in Laredo and driven into Mexico. Did I mention they were being driven by Mexican cops? Oh, sorry. I thought you knew that already.

The problem wasn’t with communications between the cops in Laredo and Mexico. Tex-Mex was, and is, spoken fluently on both sides of the border. The problem was that Mexico, in operating as a sovereign nation, delights in stonewalling inquiries from its northern neighbor. On their side of the border it is considered a badge of honor to have it known that you have told the Norté Americanos to, in police terminology, “pack sand” when it came to a criminal inquiry. In the present case it doesn’t appear that anything has improved in the 20 years since I left Laredo. Like their diminutive joke of a Presidenté, the studied incompetent arrogance is palpable south of the border.

My heart goes out to the family of Michael Hartley. From the statement by his wife that I saw on TV it is clear that he was murdered by a Mexican gang operating on Falcon Lake. For those of you not familiar with the area it is a big lake but has been a law enforcement problem for years. Smugglers abound and to venture on the lake at night is risky even if you’re well armed. Additionally, the Mexican government takes immediate umbrage over any accidental infringement into their waters but has historically turned a blind eye towards the cross-border criminal activities of Mexican nationals on the water. With the recent near collapse of any law enforcement authority in Mexico, coupled with the clear abdication of the Obama Regime of American sovereignty along the southern border, the security situation certainly has not improved. Except, of course, for Mexican police officers looking to increase their own bank accounts.

I do wish that Texas could, as they did once before, send a company or two of Texas Rangers to the border to quell the lawlessness but we know that in the 21st century that won’t happen. Instead the Hartley family will grieve, Federal officials with pass the buck, local law enforcement will be frustrated and the Mexican government will shrug its collective shoulders and say, “No blood, no foul, Señor. We cannot find a body so maybe it didn’t happen.”

Maybe we should completely close the border until they find the body and arrest the perpetrators. Ahhhhh...but that would require a sense of patriotism which we know doesn’t exist in the White House today, and some collective cajones.

U.S. police chiefs say Arizona immigration law will increase crime

This is typical propaganda rather than news.  When the Regime wants to ensure that the results of any consultation are what they want, they make sure to call in "experts" that represent reliably loyal Neo-Lib Democrat political entities.  Not one of the "Chiefs" is from a location that is Republican.  They all owe their jobs to Neo-Lib Democrats.  I don't believe they care at all what the truth is, they are going to say what Eric Holder wants said:  The Arizona law is bad, bad, bad and shame on that state for driving the criminals out of Arizona to our districts!

The WaPo, or as it is referred to locally: the Washington Compost, parrots the company–or should that be Regime–line and hits all the important talking points.  I'll let you peruse it at your own pace but don't do it on an empty stomach.  The blatant tone of the entire article is intellectually insulting.  Probably not as insulting as the intellectual vacuity of those in the meeting but still, it is offensive.

EDITORIAL: Go back to Mexico - Washington Times

EDITORIAL: Go back to Mexico - Washington Times

More on Felipe Calderon, Presidente of Mexico, supporter of open-border Neo-Libs, friend of Obama the Prevaricator and a talented prevaricator in his own right. I've already blogged my opinion of this man and his inability to read maps and have even posted a very simple map for him to read.

Maybe we should begin enforcing the doctrine of reciprocity with the Mexicans. We will do exactly to a Mexican national what they do to a U.S. national for the same offense. Sounds like a great idea? It would be if we had the prison space because I am sure that the small-minded politicians south of the border would be unwilling to change their draconian laws.

No more police escorts for union thugs | Washington Examiner

No more police escorts for union thugs | Washington Examiner

This is an excellent editorial and presents an accurate picture of what happened. You know, just like you saw on the Left Stream Media's evening news. What? There wasn't anything on MessNBC? Or CBS? Or ABC? Or CNN? Really? My oh my! Can you imagine how this could have slipped under their vision and they just didn't see this incredibly stupid and egregious use of police power to threaten a private citizen? I am sure that they'll be on the story soon for I haven't seen such a misuse of police power since...well, since Bull Connor turned the fire hoses on peaceful civil rights demonstrators in Alabama back in 1963.

When I first heard of this I said to myself, "What were they (referring to the Metropolitan Police Department) thinking?" To this day no answer has been given. Nor can a satisfactory answer be given. Officers of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, escorted bus loads of SEIU thugs to suburban Maryland where the thugs trampled on the property and privacy rights of a private citizen in support of the Obama Regime's war on banks and their own union's desire to restructure a loan from the bank where the private citizen worked. The citizen was not the corporate head of the bank. He was not a CEO or Chairman of the Board. He was a bank employee.  A mere lawyer working for the bank.  (Yes, I realize that him being a lawyer could be some sort of justification; but, hey, even lawyers have rights!)

The SEIU thugs must be very proud of themselves as they frightened a child in the residence so badly that he locked himself in the bathroom in fear. They weren't shy and happily posed for pictures because they know that the U.S. Department of Justice under Eric Holder will do nothing to either them or the union. They were able to violate a citizens rights with impunity because their protection reaches clear to the Oval Office.

I wonder if the Metropolitan Police Department will get the word?

Do you wonder when they will come to your door?

D.C. Metro Police Escorted SEIU Protesters to Bank Of America Executive’s Home

We are in charge and we can do what we want!

D.C. Metro Police Escorted SEIU Protesters to Bank Of America Executive’s Home

Question:  Is it District of Columbia or District of Colombia?

I also wonder if the political make-up of the Mayor's office and the City Council had anything at all to do with the use of the Metropolitan Police Department Officers and vehicles to escort the SEIU thugs over to Maryland? And does anyone beside me think that this smacks of collusion and corruption?  Shouldn't the duty of the police be to prevent the verbal assault of citizens on their own private property (or even on public property) by a large group of thugs?

I'm sure the Left Stream Media will be all over this now.  Won't they?

A terrifying reality: Father featured on TV show kills one of three who tried to invade his home

If Scott Knight had lived in Chicago or New York or any number of cities that have under the control of liberal-progressives for a long period of time he, his wife and children would probably be dead and the crime reported as a tragedy that the police were investigating.  Instead, he was able to exercise a true right (that's as opposed to one that has been "discovered" by Democrats such as the right to welfare), that of self defense, and prevent harm to his family and himself.

At least one, and possibly a second who is in the hospital, of the criminals who attempted the home invasion weren't so lucky.  That's why the liberal-progressive-socialists dislike self defense and the 2nd Amendment:  It's harmful to their voter base.

A person should always be ready and able to defend themselves and their family because the police, unless the person is extremely lucky, will only be able to investigate what happened after the fact.  They almost never are able to respond quick enough to stop a crime of violence even though that is something they would love to do at least once in their career.  Unfortunately once an armed assault starts it's usually over in 30 seconds or less.  As much as they would love to, the police just can't get there in time.

Just buying a firearm, however, isn't the answer.  If you are going to be armed in your house you need to think the entire issue through using logic and not emotion.  Emotion is great for liberals when they go out to save the snail darter but it doesn't do well when you're planning self-defense.  Storing the firearm can be a significant issue if you have children or if you live in a high crime area like Washington, DC, and you can't carry the weapon with you when you leave your house.  It is an issue that is easily solved, however, with some thought, common sense and a good gun safe.

And regardless of how old you are, actually using a firearm effectively does take practice.  If you haven't gone to a good range and practiced, hopefully under the watchful eye of a certified instructor, and you attempt to defend yourself you might make just a lot of noise and be more dangerous to the people passing by than to the bad guys.  Contrary to popular belief, watching a lot of action movies then practicing looking menacing in front of a mirror doesn't work to well.  Shooting is a learned skill and shooting well requires practice.

My belief is that a person should always be prepared and ready to defend themselves.  Criminals do not like to take the chance that their next victim might be armed and usually look for their victims in areas where gun ownership is most restricted.  Why is that, you ask?  Simple.  First, they are criminals so carrying a weapon illegally is not a big deal.  Second, they may be criminals but they aren't that stupid and they don't want to be the one who gets hurt.  It's much easier, not to mention safer, to rob or terrorize victims who are sure to be unarmed than to take a chance that the potential victim is armed and ready to defend him or her self.

MSNBC's Tamron Hall Floats Conspiracy Theory That Arizona Deputy Shooting Was 'Staged' to Gain Support for Immigration Law | NewsBusters.org

MSNBC's Tamron Hall Floats Conspiracy Theory That Arizona Deputy Shooting Was 'Staged' to Gain Support for Immigration Law | NewsBusters.org

I know it's hard to believe, but Tamron Hall is a journalist. And MessNBC anchor, no less! So I guess it's nice to see that MessNBC is broad-minded enough to hire liberally handicapped. (I guess the politically correct way to say it would be to say "differently abled." That's actually quite accurate because the great majority of people don't let their minds loose in liberal fantasy land for extended periods of time and she obviously does.) The only "growing speculation" on the most outrageous conspiracy theory since the nutty left-wing "Truthers" is coming only from the far left-wing of the already liberal-progressive-socialist fringe: The Phoenix NewTimes.

Dead suspect was ex-con whose recent prison stint was for double shooting

Maplewood, Minnesota, sounds like a quiet community in the suburbs of Minneapolis-St. Paul.  Sgt. Joe Bergeron had served the community of Maplewood for 26 years and left behind a wife and a 13 year-old daughter.

On of the perpetrators is dead.  Police have the other in custody.

May Sgt. Bergeron rest in peace and may the good Lord comfort and keep his family.

FOXNews.com - 17 Suspected Illegal Immigrants Caught in Search for Ariz. Deputy's Attackers

FOXNews.com - 17 Suspected Illegal Immigrants Caught in Search for Ariz. Deputy's Attackers

The Deputy involved will live and now we know that the wound was superficial. That the attackers were drug smugglers and, no doubt, illegally in the United States, focuses the problem that the federal government has let fester for way too long. Is it any wonder that the State of Arizona took steps to address the problem? And when you actually read the law, it is perfectly clear that they did so within the bounds of the Constitution.

Now I know that you have heard immigrant activists and the Left Stream Media bloviating about how the Arizona law in unconstitutional but it is clear to me that they haven't actually read or studied the Constitution and that they believe it says only what they want it to say. Arizona did not preempt the federal government. Arizona did not write new immigration law. Arizona did say that they would ensure that current federal law would be enforced in the State of Arizona.

If the liberal-progressive-socialist Democrats currently in Congress have a problem with that, let them step-up to the plate and do something constructive to solve the illegal immigrant problem in the halls of Congress. They won't, of course, because the illegal immigrants fit perfectly in their plan for a permanent underclass which can be used again and again for political purposes.  Plus, they are a source for cheap labor.

And I would recommend that Presidente Calderon actually do something about the conditions in his own country that force people to cross the Rio Grande in search of freedom and food. The blood on the border is a direct result of the corruption in Mexico and that corruption is a result of the Mexican government's failure to take care of their citizens.  And as for the reconquista movement that the Mexican government quietly supports and encourages, they can take it an put it in that dank, dark place where it belongs.

Police state: How Mexico treats illegal aliens

The absolute hypocrisy of Mexico and the Mexican President in criticizing the Arizona law is just astounding when one compares it to what Mexico does to aliens in Mexico.  Michelle Malkin hoists President Felipe Calderon on his own petard with her report on Mexico's draconian laws and policies.

Maybe we should just adopt Mexico's laws and enforce them the way they do.  What do you think?

Congressman: Why is Justice Department refusing to allow its career attorneys to testify before civil rights commission? | Washington Examiner

Congressman: Why is Justice Department refusing to allow its career attorneys to testify before civil rights commission? | Washington Examiner

Of course Eric Holder's Justice Department is refusing to cooperate with the Civil Rights Commission! The New Black Panther Party was one of the first supporters of his boss, Barack Obama, and the Chicago Way dictates that they be protected.

In addition, it is becoming eminently clear that in the minds of the Obama Regime, the law in question could only be violated if the offenders were white. In their wisdom, blacks cannot violate the voting rights of others thus are exempt from prosecution.

I wonder what other laws that the Obama Regime believes are dependent on race? Wasn't Obama supposed to be the first post-racial president and the great uniter?

I guess not. In fact he has taken steps to polarize racial issues (remember Cambridge?) and clearly panders to people on the basis of race.

Then write your Congressman and demand the impeachment of Eric Holder. He is an absolute disgrace.

The Systematic Dismantling of a Secure America

The Systematic Dismantling of a Secure America

This is an excellent and reasoned presentation of the failures of political officials on both sides of the aisle to properly set the stage for victory in the War on Terror.  It is axiomatic that in order to win in war you must know yourself and know your enemy.  Because of the dominance of Political Correctness which limits the American political lexicon we are unable to define our enemy and, as author Janet Levy points out, we invite him to walk among us and provide him information on our tactics in hopes of placating him.  As a result our leaders now tell us that our enemy is terrorism; but terrorism is merely a strategy and it is impossible to have a strategy as an enemy.  In WWII our enemies were clearly defined and, although we knew that not all Germans or Japanese were our "enemies," while the war was on and until they were unconditionally defeated we treated them as enemies.  There is something about that kind of pressure on the non-combatant population that takes away the will of the active combatants to continue to fight.  That is a lesson of war that is as old as mankind and even though we try to prove it wrong with our enlightened sense of justice, there is no better way to destroy the will to wage war than to engage in total war.  Unfortunately, we now have a situation where we wage limited war while the enemy wages a total war as they try to destroy our will to resist through prolonging a conflict they cannot win on the battlefield and propaganda spread by a willing Left Stream Media aided by an overwhelming pressure to be politically correct.  The Islamic extremists' commitment to total war was recently confirmed by Obama when he talked about the greatest danger being terrorists getting their hands on a nuclear device.  Even someone as incompetent in foreign policy as Obama knows that the Islamic terrorists would have no compunction about detonating a nuclear device in New York, Washington, DC, Los Angeles or San Francisco because they are committed to total war.  We are not.  We can't even properly define our enemy.

I do not believe that all Muslims are our enemy nor do all Muslims directly support terrorism. I believe this because more Muslims become victims of terrorist acts each year than any other group.  Yet I cannot with certainty answer the question as to why do they allow their children to be recruited by clerics who use them as little more than human sacrifices.  Indeed, there have been well publicized reports of Islamic mothers who take pride that their sons and daughters have been suicide murderers of those who are either from a different Islamic sect or are non-believers.  This sort of unquestioning submission to murderous clerics bent on expanding their own political power is a central part of the Islamic culture and, I suppose, may be the only reason needed.  But even though many Muslims live peaceably in the United States as well as other countries and do not directly support terrorism, they still enable terrorism through their inaction when clerics predisposed to violence speak out in their masjid.  They enable terrorism when they allow their children to be taught that they should hate non-believers.  They enable terrorism when they refuse to assimilate into the societies where they live and demand special treatment because of their religion.

In the United States, were a Christian cleric–or indeed, even a group that calls itself "Christian" or "fundamentalist"– to promote violence in the same manner we can be certain that it would be noticed by other Christians and brought to the immediate attention of law enforcement.  And actions, as we recently saw in the arrest of members of the Hutaree Militia in Michigan which was described as "Christian," would be swift and sure.  In this Christian nation, and the United States is most certainly a Christian nation, we will not allow others to promote violence and break the law even if they wear the mantle of Christianity on their shoulders.  So why are we so reticent to call out the Muslim ummah on this same issue?  Why do our leaders bend over backwards–or is that forward?–to avoid offending those who should not be offended but should rightly be helping to drive out those who sow violence?  The answer is, of course, political correctness: that all consuming desire to ensure that we don't offend or exclude or stilt diversity that is the hand-maiden of the liberal-progressive-socialist left that has seized control of the Democrat Party and even managed to install one of its own as president.  Political correctness prevents us from properly defining and knowing our enemy.  Political correctness has us call an act of terrorism, which is now the "enemy," a "man caused disaster."  Political correctness requires that we submit by allowing a state-funded university to install foot baths for Muslims at a cost to the taxpayer, yet ban the display of the Christian cross at no cost to the taxpayer.  Political correctness that allows the enemy to refer to us as "The Great Satan" while we smile and scrape and bow and not call that enemy by its true name: Islamic Fascism.

Maybe we should declare war on political correctness before it destroys us all.

FOXNews.com - GOP Reps Offer Bill to Ban Interior Dept. From Hindering Border Agents

That any bureaucracy would be allowed to use its regulatory powers to impede law enforcement officers in the exercise of their duties should be a criminal act. Unfortunately it is all too true when it comes to actions by the Obama Regime.

It may sound harsh but the Department of Interior should immediately revoke this unconscionable regulation or face having its budget cut to the point that they either submit to assisting in the enforcement of the law or lose the ability to function at all in that area. We cannot allow Washington bureaucrats to interfere with the security of our border just to keep tire track out of an area that is protected for what may well be the most specious of reasons.
