Burma Junta Releases Democracy Leader Suu Kyi

Free...but for how long?
Aung San Suu Kyi...finally, she is free!  For the moment, that is.

Given the despotic nature of the military junta that rules Burma, however, it is likely that they will imprison her again at some point in the not too distant future using the slightest pretense.  This woman has spent 15 of the last 20 years imprisoned by quite probably the only government that Obama hasn't apologized or bowed to.  She remains unbowed in her quest for democracy and freedom for the Burmese people.  This slightly built woman in a small country on the other side of the world unequivocally demonstrates for the entire world what our own Forefathers meant when they said that they pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to the cause of freedom.

The Sons and Daughters of Liberty

The Sons and Daughters of Liberty

An excellent read in defense of the Sons and Daughters of Liberty. Recommended for your Sunday and as you read think about the treatment by the Left Stream Media and Hollywood of the decent people who comprise the Tea Party movement.

Shutting Down Free Speech

There is a real danger when the government attempts to direct and control political speech and since Richard Nixon no American President until has taken as many steps towards control as Obama.  Clearly he is thin-skinned to criticism of his policies and politics and his reaction to, and disdain for, speech that opposes him is alarming.  Presidents have to get used to the heat of the kitchen or, as President Harry Truman said, "get out!"

As we are a nation of freedoms, President Obama should listen to President Truman.

On Becoming an Un-Hyphenated American

On Becoming an Un-Hyphenated American

Oh, the joy of common sense!

What Vladimir Steblina brings to the fore is that we will never be able to get past the divisive racial history until we realize that we are only Americans. We may come from many backgrounds, from many cultures and from many races but we are only one nationality: American. Not Mexican-American, not And until we reject the idea that it is ok for political parties to divide us along class, economic and/or racial lines, E Pluribus Unum will be merely a very nice motto from our Founding Fathers.

More American Expatriates Give Up Citizenship

I spent over 30 years in the service of my country and love it dearly.  I lived outside of the United States, mostly in Southeast Asia, for about 20 of those years and the result was not a desire to become a citizen of another country but a reenforcement of my love for America.  I can look at my country and see all her flaws, yet having seen much of the world and having lived abroad for so great a time, I've seen no other nation that measures up to her greatness.

There are certainly improvements that can be made.  Our tax system has become onerous and unwieldy.  Our government has become overlarge and has forgotten its proper role under the Constitution.  We seem unable to break the hold of the pernicious political correctness that eats away at our culture weakening it at a time when we need it to be strengthened.  Despite these and other failings, it is still the shining light of freedom in this world and if you doubt me, just look at the lines of people at embassies and consulates around the world who are trying to get a visa just to come here.

I'm certain that the people in the linked story are at their wits end to consider such an act and for that they have my pity.  But while I may understand their consternation borne of the very expansion of government that I and other Conservatives oppose, I cannot support or look favorably upon their decision.

Fighting Statism

Fighting Statism

An interesting read with a strong libertarian point of view; but, oh so true in this day and age. There is no doubt that we must fight statism if we are to survive as a free people. To do this we must take control of and reform the Republican Party. (Forty years ago I would have said the Republican and Democrat Parties but the Democrats have been seized completely by the liberal-progressive-socialist left wingnuts and are beyond hope.) We cannot let the traditional politicians who change principles as often as they change their suits continue to lead us to ever and ever larger government. It seems that every time we elect a new person to congress he or she goes there and tries to write a new law. Now I would not hazard a guess on how many laws there are currently on the books just on the Federal level in America; but I do know that there are laws that have been passed that are never enforced just because the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Federal Courts do not have the time to take them all to trial. There are so many laws on the books that lawyers must specialize in order to provide adequate advice. There are so many laws on the books that no matter how law abiding you are, you've probably, without meaning to, broken at least one in the last month.

What we need are elected politicians who will go to Washington with the idea firmly in their mind that they will be judged not on laws passed but on how many laws they can find and repeal that are worthless intrusions on personal liberty. After a couple of terms of politicians actually worrying about liberty, then we could start thinking about judging congress on the quality of bills that they enact rather than the quantity. And any congress that fails to enact a budget should be turned out en masse on the very next election. (You know, like the liberal-progressive-socialist Democrat controlled Congress we have now that is afraid of enacting a budget because they know that they plan to increase further the size of government, break promises of restraint and increase the federal deficit to unconscionable levels. None of these people should be returned to the house and 1/3rd of the Senators should be new come January. But I suppose that would be too perfect a world.)

Study: Net Neutrality to Curb Innovation, Investment and Curtail Consumer Welfare

Study: Net Neutrality to Curb Innovation, Investment and Curtail Consumer Welfare

There is a reason that the Obama Regime wants to control the internet and it isn't for the good of the internet users or bloggers. Control of the internet leads to control of what is currently the most open source of news, fiction and fantasy available to We the People. The internet is host to ultra-left liberal bloggers and web sites as well as ultra-right bloggers and web sites along with everything in between. It hosts factual news as easily as fictional propaganda. It allows the almost instantaneous spread of ideas and thoughts. It is already neutral in that anyone can go on the net be they right, left, sane or insane, truthful or a liar. So if the net is already neutral, what is the FCC up to?

It is simple. There is an old axiom that if you want to control people you must control the information that those people receive. It is the goal of the Obama Regime to put in place controls which ensure that the primary information provided is that approved by the government. By limiting, or eventually eliminating, opposing information the populace can be more easily controlled by those who believe themselves to be the ruling, intellectual elite.

All those who value freedom, regardless of political leanings, should oppose this move. Those on the right will naturally oppose it because their political beliefs naturally oppose the goals of the Obama Regime. Those on the left should oppose it because, trust me, although he would like to be, Obama will not be in power forever and the next President will be from the right. The power to control the speech of a free people by either the left or the right must be opposed by all those who wish to maintain freedom.

ClimateGate Whitewash

ClimateGate Whitewash

I don't know if you caught the attempted "ambush interview" of AlGore, the Goricle, the High Priest of Global Warming, by a reporter from the Bill O'Reilly show on Fox News, but it was excellent.  Gore refused to answer any questions, of course, and only kept saying, "I'm not doing an interview."

It is clear that the Obama Regime and their liberal-progressive-socialist minions plan to continue the push for Cap & Trade.  They are, of course, looking for the proverbial straw to break the camel's back and Cap & Trade is their "straw."  Once they have engineered collapse of the current American economy, they plan to rebuild it on a Marxist-socialist foundation with a good bit of fascism thrown in for good measure.  I say this because they will obviously need the fascism to control We the People and prevent an outright rebellion.  This is what Obama meant when he said that there would be a "fundamental change" in America: The America that prided itself on individual freedom will disappear and be replaced by an America where the government controls all facets of the lives of the citizenry.  Redistribution of wealth will be the rule of the day following the precept of "...from each according to his ability, to each according to his need."  America will, at best, be a nation in the image of European socialist thought and, at worst, a nation in the image of Orwell's 1984 subject to the tyranny so eloquently described by Mark Levin in his book, Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto.

He will not succeed.

FOXNews.com - Member of Unit Linked to 'Dirty Dozen' Dies in Pennsylvania

Too often we are so busy with the events of today that we forget those who participated in the events of yesteryear.  Without men like Jack Agnew, 506th Parachute Regiment, 101st Airborne, our "todays" would be quite different.

On this "today," after reading the article on PFC Agnew's service, take a moment to reflect.  Then the next time you see an elderly veteran,  take time thank him for his service.  You'll both be glad you did.

Court ruling strips FCC of power and hands Congress a tough task - The Hill's Hillicon Valley

Court ruling strips FCC of power and hands Congress a tough task - The Hill's Hillicon Valley

This was something that was watched with great interest considering the efforts of the Obama Regime to insert unelected czars at key places in the government to help in achieving their ultimate goal of transforming our nation from a Republic of free citizens to a state-controlled, socialist state. The court ruled properly in this case but We the People must exert the power of the ballot box this coming November in order to ensure that our Republic is preserved.

Sure, John Kerry likes free speech. When he agrees with it. | Washington Examiner

Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) is typical of liberal-progressive-socialist Democrats in that free speech is only for one side of the political spectrum: The Left's.  I, however, do love the 1st Amendment. Freedom of speech makes it so much easier to spot the idiots.  And most of the time they are from the left.

The Horrors Of Progressive Socialism Revisited

The Horrors Of Progressive Socialism Revisited

The truth of history is something our young people are not taught in the relativism of today's educational system so it is something that we must pass on ourselves. That they don't know history is shown by their fealty to and support of the Obama Administration's actions on Obamacare and soon, Cap & Trade. Only the most naive would willingly submit to the nanny state and soft tyranny that is being offered from Washington's liberal-progressive-socialist Democrats who wish to create a regime that controls We the People and takes away the basic freedom that was given to us by the Founders. We must now work doubly hard to not only teach the young the hard lessons that history has recorded but also to elect this coming November those who will join the political battle to reverse repair the damage that is done to our Republic.

Federal judge upholds D.C.'s gun limits - Washington Times

Federal judge upholds D.C.'s gun limits - Washington Times

The issue surrounding the battle between free men and the anti-gun rights activists continues despite the clear ruling of the Supreme Court. Liberal-progressive-socialists always have as a central theme the disarming of the citizens as part of their overall plan for seizing and keeping political power. They fear the honest man and protect the guilty. Such is the demented view they have of society.

"Let me be buried on this spot!"

An excellent posting from Michelle Malkin. It is good to take time to remember history for it puts the foibles, corruptions and deceits of our current Administration and Congress in the proper perspective.

Would that the Democrats were so imbued with the actual spirit of our Forefathers that they would have stood and rejected the seizure of 1/6th of our economy by the Federal Government under the guise of taking care of all Americans. I would commend to them the words of Thomas Jefferson who wisely said, "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

The battle for freedom is not yet over. It is a battle that each generation must fight if freedom is to be preserved.

Remember, our rights do not come from government but from God. Any government that pretends to convey "rights" to its citizens is usurping God's will.
